Security

• This server has many clients/authors working on it. This, by its nature, creates security issues. We have taken some care to keep client processes separate.
  
  
  
• Authors may ftp files to their own directory. However an author is not allowed to browse any directory trees beyond his own directory. This is enforced by the ftp software. Authors cannot use symbolic links to link to files outside their directory tree. However, processes running on the server, given the appropriate permissions, may link to files in an author's directory tree.
  
  
  
• Although the server is backed up on a regular basis, each author is responsible for backing up his own files. It's suggested that each author keep a mirror copy of his directory tree on his own computer.
  
  
  
• We believe the server security is appropriate for the services offered. However, it is not appropriate for monetary transactions, mission critical applications, nuclear plant control, or air traffic control. If you need more security than this, you should consider running your own server in a more secure environment.
